THEATRE

Theatrical Interests

It was always talked about as a child. Would I go into acting? After all, being born in Los Angeles, California: land of sunshine, palm trees, and movies - it only seemed natural to be at least curious. I grew up hearing stories about my grandfather was a veterinarian in Hollywood. He helped with several animal actors and knew many famous folk from the 1950s and 60s involved in film and television, and he was mentioned in Time magazine. That's just my mother's side of the family tree. On my father's side, his grandmother was a well-known writer in the 1920s (so much that I've written a book on her life - see Books: Demi-Tasse and Mrs. Grundy). She won a playwriting contest which earned her a spot in a prestigious Harvard class. She interviewed numerous well-knowns at the time. She also did acting. One of her "jobs" at the newspaper was to go undercover to New York and try to make it as a chorus girl on Broadway under the guise of Huldah Benson. It was a fascinating story! Talking about show business, theatre, film, acting was an intriguing part of my childhood.

I did a few plays in my younger years - such as playing "Pepper" in my 5th grade musical "Annie", musical theatre and choral productions all through childhood, and working in the theatre and drama department of my high school, which was in Japan. I did small time local fashion runway and print modeling at the same time (see below).

Moving forward to my university years, I was a Theatre & Playwright Major at Portland State University in Oregon. I studied acting and improv under the guidance of Scott Parker, Victoria Parker, and William Tate. I loved acting but had a terrible time of stage fright. I could sing though. I enjoyed that the most. That and being backstage, behind the scenes, and watching the magic unfold.

There is also the dilemma of being 6' tall and towering over most of your male actor counterparts. Tall Girl is my life. I do make a pretty amazing sorceress in a cape however - putting that height to my advantage! See Cornwyth!

Future acting pursuits remain to be seen as I'm working more on the writing side of things. I have a few plays in mind. At the heart of it, I love acting, but I'm a writer.  Who knows where you'll see me next? Likely behind the scenes, backstage, or pushing pen to paper.

Acting

As for acting, I really enjoyed doing background (extra) work through Smyth Casting (Ilona Smyth) in Ottawa and vicinity. I can be found in several movies (my IMDB page) and smaller projects such as the fan-favourite Cornwyth web-series and Cornwyth Tales specials playing Temora the Sorceress. My daughter is also in it, as a halfling-elf thief named Elliwyk. It is directed and produced by Kendrick de Lepper of Shadowyn Films, Ontario, Canada. All episodes are found on YouTube. The first one I appear in is episode 8.
