Author Artist Actress ~ Kristin Carter-Groulx
knows a lot about what it is to be "in character". As an outspoken Autistic individual who is also an Artist and Author and Actress, Kristin has learned to embrace the creative world by being simply who she is. In order to make her latest book, she embraced her Irish/Swedish ancestry and wrote a nautical story filled with adventure anyone would love. She and her friends and family also took part in the telling of the tale by cosplaying the story characters of the book, Petal the Flower Faery, Kristin's latest adventure! Other books Kristin has written including children's books about a Whale named Humphrey, a challenged boy nicknamed Sir Can't-A-Lot. She has also written a YA story for the older teens known as the "mis-adventures of Alyson Bell" and has 7 books associated with the series. It is little known as it was only given out at small press book fairs. During the time of its writing (which spanned a decade) Kristin fought off several medical troubles including stage 4 kidney cancer, and lost three major organs. She also fought off necrotizing fasciitis on her left arm. Her 3rd book was left on a cliff-hanger as a result as she was hospitalized. Thankfully she lived and her three children were there to watch their mother heal and watch them grow up. As these medical issues compounded with also being neurodivergent, Kristin has opted to stay on the quieter side of the writers world. She frequents renaissance festivals and smaller book fairs, and sometimes will do book shop book signings. She has worked as a professional genealogist for the past 30 years and created several books as a result. One book, is an 800-page tribute to Kristin's great-grandmother, an influencial female writer of the 1920's who had her own column in the syndicated newspapers by the name (and book's name also) Demi-Tasse and Mrs. Grundy. She is also a Cosplayer and costumer designer, after working behind the scenes in wardrobe and makeup at university theatre departments. She has also been an artist all her life. See Artistry for examples of her earlier works including pencil drawings, paintings, self-portraits, and more. As a side hobby, Kristin also DJ's on the side under the guise of DJ SkylarK and presents mixes of old school techno and house music (something she DJ'd to in the late 80s/90s) on her social medias. She is an advocate for both Autism and Multiple Sclerosis, which affect many family members.
